SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Holiman, Ashlyn: Bucket List

In my short 18 years of life, I have learned a few things about this life. Life is short. So many never have the chance to even begin to live life before it is taken from them. Life is uncertain. You can’t live your life thinking “what if.” If everyone let the unknown control them, we would still be stuck in the Stone Ages. Life is unfair. It doesn’t stop for anyone. There is no pause or rewind button. If you don’t take chances while you can, your life will pass you by.
Many people compile what is called a bucket list, a checklist of things they want to do before they “kick the bucket.” Some are spontaneous, some require planning. Some are long-term while others may only last a few seconds. All are, in some way, meaningful to the individual. I have numerous things I would enjoy the chance to do, yet a select few are higher up on my evergrowing list. Although a cliché desire, I want to travel the world, to throw a dart at a map and voyage to wherever it lands. I want to become fluent in sign language, as well as at least two other languages. I have always had a fascination with languages, and of course this would come in handy in my various travels. I want to go on a no budget shopping spree. Not because I am materialistic, but because I am a female, and who wouldn’t love to buy whatever their heart desired. Most importantly, I want to grow old with the love of my life. When we say our vows, we are making a promise to God and that promise should not be broken. To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.
Last, but not least, I want to live without regret. No one ever wants to look back at their life and wish they had done it all differently. You only get one life, so live it.
