SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Collins, Auttumn: Bucket List

Before I die, there are a few things that I am determined to do. Some of the things on this list may seem a little ridiculous to other people, but they make perfect sense to me. They range from traveling to the romantic city of Paris to the death-defying swim with sharks. This is my “bucket list.”

The first item on my “bucket list” is to win the lottery. With the winnings, I would donate 10 million dollars to the Honors College at SAU. It would be nice to have a building named after me. The rest of the money will pay for the other things on the list, and I could retire early.

Then I would begin by traveling to Paris and going to the top of the Eiffel Tower. I have always been afraid of heights; however, I believe that this would help me overcome that fear. Besides that would be such a great view of the beautiful city. Plus Paris is notorious for being the city of love.

From there, I want to experience something dangerous such as swimming with sharks. Unlike most people, I do not want to skydive or cliff dive. No, I would much rather prefer to swim with sharks, because no one wants to do that.

Afterwards, I would find my own piece of paradise. Taking a cruise to a remote, exotic island is what I call paradise. I would sit on the beach with the water barely splashing against my feet for hours.

Finally, the last item on my list is to witness a miracle. Whether it be seeing something extraordinary or something simple. I want to see something breath taking, that no one will ever believe was possible.

Hopefully I will be able to complete all of the items on my “bucket list” before my time is up. If I do, then I know that I would have lived an excellent life.
