SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. NCHC 2025

The National Collegiate Honors Council held their annual conference this year in San Diego. SAUs Honors students: Justin Gravett, Cole Roberts, Jenna Holmes presented posters showcasing their research done throughout the year. Additionally, five Honors College professors: Ed Kardas, Antoinette Odendaal, Brianna McCartney, Hayder Zghair, and Nathan Lambert held a panel discussion board. The faculty members discussed the development of the full honors courses offered over the years at SAU since Covid-19.

Over 300 students from different colleges around the country presented their research from this year. The SAU Honors College is very proud of all students, and faculty for all of their hard work!

Honors Arkansas Hunger Summit 2025

Two SAU honors students presented at the 2025 Honors Arkansas Health and Wellness Summit. The event was hosted at the University of Central Arkansas. Several honors students from different universities across Arkansas presented their posters as well.

Matriculation Ceremony 2025

The 2025 Matriculation Ceremony for the incoming Honors College students had a great turnout. Our guest speaker, Dr. Tyler Rives, an SAU Honors alumnus, gave a presentation to the students and guests. He spoke of his undergraduate experience at SAU, along with his journey that allowed him to get where he is now in the medical field as a Doctor at UAMS in Little Rock.

Senior Projects 2025

Honors College seniors Gage Ward and Jonathon Parker  along with another computer science student presented Computer Science Senior Design Projects yesterday. The group created their senior project on how to get cows to eat in smaller areas.

Honors students Christian Wiggins and Aiden Thacker presented their senior project of a game called, Blight's Grasp. The group of computer science students along with a few art students designed the game over the course of two semesters.
