SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Grier, Kelsey: Bucket List

Death is something no one wants to talk about or even think about; it’s avoided like the plague. Death may be a topic the vast majority of the public tries to avoid, but the truth is we all only breathe for so long. When this life is over no one will care what we wore, how our hair looked or what car we drove. Our bodies will return into dust and all that will live on are our accomplishments.
Before I die I want to go on a mission trip to Africa. This is so important to me, because I want to live my life for God. I would have no hope without God, so I want to give hope to others by teaching them about God.
The second thing I want to do before I stop breathing is to shoot a documentary on human trafficking. This subject has been close to my heart ever since I did a dual credit research paper on human trafficking. I had never seen children with no hope or soul before. Their eyes were not happy like those of most children, their eyes were like a cold sea; these children were drowning in the world of human trafficking.
I really want to run a 100 mile race before I die. I want to push myself to not only the physical limit but also the mental limit. Races are all about being mentally tough and I want to go out there and see how tough I am; I love running.
I want to take a trip to Ireland. Traveling and seeing other parts of the world are essential to becoming a well rounded person. Ireland has always been a place I wanted to visit, because it seems so cozy and serene.
The last item on my bucket list is to adopt a child. For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to adopt a child. I feel so strongly about this, because I want to give another child a chance and to let them know that they are loved and special.
If this list is all I accomplish in my lifetime, then I’ll be happy; because my life will have meant something. Life shouldn’t be wasted on worrying about cars or what haircut we should get; our life should be about helping those who need it the most. To change one person’s life is enough, it means that because you lived someone else is better off.
