SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

HIckson, Kathryn: Bucket List

Everybody has a list of things they want to do before they die. Some things are unreasonable, while others are easily attainable. That list is generally referred to as a “Bucket List.” Many people list impossibilities, items more like a dream than a goal. Others however, wish to do great things that would help change the world. I don’t know about changing the world, but changing my own life is a good place to start.
One of the most important things I want to do is have a family. It sounds simple in concept, but not every person has the ability to pursue such a dream. I want to be able to marry the love of my life and grow old with him. A baby or two along the way would make me happy, too, and I want a partner who can appreciate that.
I also want to see the world. I know that may be stereotypical, but I’ve always wanted to see some place besides the US. The one place I would absolutely love to travel to would be Japan, though anyplace would be nice.
Money is important to everyone, especially to those of us who don’t have much of it. For once, I want to just be able to spend as much money as I want on a budget-free shopping spree. I’ll probably come home with more clothes than I’ll ever wear, but I just want the thrill of knowing that if I want to spend more than twenty dollars on a pair of jeans or a shirt, I can without having to worry about buying food for the rest of the month.
Last but not least, I want to learn another language fluently.  I want to be able to carry on a conversation with someone who doesn’t speak English and be able to understand what they’re saying. It sounds ridiculous, but I’ve tried to learn a new language before, and failed miserably.
All in all, my bucket list is fairly simple, but I still want to be able to experience all those things. Who knows, maybe I’ll travel to Japan and learn Japanese before I turn thirty. Until then, I’m just going to have to settle with living my life to the fullest.
