SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Lee, Terence: Bucket List

In the movie The Bucket List, Morgan Freeman once asked “Have you found joy in your
life? Has your life brought joy to others?” It’s a fact that no one person can truly know the
day they’ll die. The one real thing is that anyone can die at any instant. That’s why I believe
in making every moment count, doing things that would make me or the people around me
happy.

First on my bucket list is something that I’m sure most people would want to do
before they kick the bucket, skydive. I’m not an adrenaline junkie but I have to admit, jumping
out of a plane at 10,000 feet in the air would be pretty awesome. Some people might call it
crazy. I call it living life to the fullest.

The next thing on my bucket list is to play in the main event of World Series of Poker.
I’m a poker aficionado and to be able to sit down with the best poker players and still play
my own game would be like me taking a 6-year-old to Disneyland for the first time.

Third would be to attend the Academy Awards, the crème de la crème of award
ceremonies in show business. It’s a longshot but that’s how dreams become reality. I’ve
always been a really big fan of the Academy Awards and movies in general, so attending the
Academy Awards would be ecstasy.

Three bucket items are not much, but I’m 20 and I haven’t lived life long
enough to know what else I would want to do before I kick the bucket. I admit that
skydiving, playing in the World Series of Poker and attending the Academy Awards aren’t
exactly conventional, but it’s my bucket list. It’s not meant to be conventional.
