SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Hawron, Annette: Bucket List

I’m almost 18 years old, been homeschooled all my life, the majority of which has been spent in New Boston, Texas. Coming to SAU has given me a chance to broaden my aspirations so that when I am old, I can look back on my life and say with confidence that I lived my life to the fullest. Thus, I have compiled a list of things I am determined to accomplish in my life, otherwise known as my “bucket list”.

The first item on my list is to travel to each continent and make at least one lifelong friend along the way. My parents were missionaries and traveled across many countries. The stories of the people they met and the things they witnessed inspire me to visit some of the places they’ve been to and some that they haven’t.

I have always found listening to my mother speak in other languages so amazing and interesting; it is because of this fascination, that I want to learn to speak Danish, French, Spanish, Sign Language, Pig Latin and German fluently, hence number two on my list.

I have been greatly involved in the soccer and tennis programs of New Boston and have always enjoyed playing and teaching these sports; it is because of my love for these sports, that numbers three and four on my list are:  to attend a Tennis Grand Slam, preferably Wimbledon or the French Open and to watch a World Cup Soccer Championship game in the actual country it is being hosted.

Though these items are mine to achieve, I do not wish to pursue them alone. The last item on my bucket list is to marry a man who will join me on these adventures and be someone that I can share my joy with.
