SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Johnston, Marissa: Bucket List

A “Bucket List” can be defined as a number of experiences and achievements that a person wishes to accomplish during their lifetime. However, since no one really knows their last day to live then what’s the harm in living your “Bucket List” each day? It wouldn’t mean as much if you went through your list and never accomplished everything, rather than accomplishing everything each day.

The number one thing on my bucket list is to make people smile and laugh. Not one person should go through their day without smiling. Life isn’t something you can turn around and redo. It doesn’t have playbacks or fast forwards. It is in that moment and that second, so why not do your best to make people smile and laugh?

The second thing on my “Bucket List” is to not fall short of what makes me happy and achieving my dreams. I hope that each day I can make another step towards my dreams. I believe that it is important to make decisions based on my happiness and not always other people’s happiness.

Finally, the last thing on my “Bucket List” is to make a difference in someone’s life. Of course every day you aren’t going to have this major impact, but it doesn’t hurt to have a small one. Just something as little as grabbing the door for someone or even carrying their books can turn their day around. One act of kindness can make even a little difference in someone’s life.

There’s always that risk that you will fall short of your “Bucket List,” that you won’t get everything done and it will be too late to do anything about it. Instead of having that risk, I believe that you should make your “Bucket List” something you strive for every day.
