SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Skaggs, Kaitlyn: Bucket List

“Flatlining”, “the point of no return”, “giving up the ghost”, and “kicking the bucket” are just a few euphemisms for death and dying. Those currently living have their eyes set on some sort of goal. These life aspirations vary immensely per individual. Making a “bucket list”--a list in which someone writes down the activities they want to participate in before one “kicks the bucket”-- is relatively common among humanity. I have chosen five items to put on my personal bucket list.

To begin, I want to have a child before I pass away. I want to be able to love and be loved as only a mother-child relationship can offer. This would truly bring me a sense of life fulfillment. Along with having a child, it would be ideal for me to also be in love with their father. However, I am aware that that may not happen.

In addition to having a child and "love of my life" before I die, I want to pursue the career I have prepared for. To be successful as a world ambassador would literally "make my life," as the saying goes. I am working very hard to stay on the correct path in order to fulfill my dreams.

During my travels as an ambassador, I plan on spending time in my dream vacation spot: Belize. From what I have researched of this beautiful island, it seems to be full of life and love.

Eventually, I desire to live in the country where my blood is from: Belgium. It would bring me the ultimate joy to be a United States Ambassador in Brussels. Though I was not born and raised there, I love my home country with all my heart.

My bucket list is not set in stone, but neither is this life. I can only trust God that He will allow me to live the best life I can, even if my bucket list is never completed.
