SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Lock, Emily: Bucket List

My name is Emily Lock and I am from Greenbrier, AR.  I plan to major in Math Education, and become a secondary education math teacher.  Three journeys I want to take before I pass are parachuting and/or bungee jumping, go to Las Vegas to watch the National Finals Rodeo, and qualify to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming.  I have wanted to have these experiences since I was about ten years old, and I still plan to carry-out these plans.

After I get out of college, I want to either parachute or bungee jump. I feel the experience would not only give me an adrenaline rush, but also would be an exciting experience.  Not everyone can say that they have gone bungee jumping or parachuting, and I want to be a person that can. Qualifying to Las Vegas for the National Finals Rodeo is any cowboy or cowgirl’s dream.  Being able to watch some of the “celebrities” I look up to, at what they do best, would make me so happy.  Lastly, I want to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming.  To do this, I have to place in one of the top three spots of the event that I compete in, which is break-a-way roping, by the end of the competition year.  Break-a-way roping is a very competitive sport, and I will have to be very competitive to be able to do this.

Experiencing any of the adventures above would be exhilarating.  I hope I can someday do all of the things above.
