SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Burton, Kenneth: Bucket List

What would you like to do before you die? I confess I've never given it much thought before. But since you asked, here are five things I really feel like I NEED to do before I die.

The first thing I'd like to do is visit another country. I've always been fascinated by how others live, and even if it's the tourist experience, I want to experience something different and new.

Second on my list is getting published. I started making comics five years ago. They weren't exactly publishing material then, and I don't know if I'm at that level now. But, I've been working hard to improve. Hopefully I'll be good enough to publish some before I kick the bucket.

The third item isn't so much of a personal accomplishment as it is a dream. I want to see a Libertarian in office. Every day I grow increasingly disappointed with Democrats and Republicans; before I die I want to see a politician who truly cares about this country.

For my fourth entry, I want to graduate. It may seem silly to say "I want to be prepared for life before I die," but I think college prepares you by making me understand life a little more; something I definitely want to do before it's too late.

And finally, the most important and least likely thing I want to do before I die: win an argument with a woman. You may laugh, but it's never happened to me before. Is it important? Maybe not. But it would mean I achieved the impossible. And, I think if I could do that, I could rest in peace.
