SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Huffman, Jessica: Bucket List

Attempting to fulfill unrealistic aspirations has become an American pastime. I, on the other hand, intend to complete as much of my bucket list as possible. Five goals I will complete are: travel the world, create a wildlife refuge/rehabilitation center, adopt a child who needs a caring family, go skydiving, and go scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef.

Traveling the world would be an irreplaceable adventure. I have longed to experience the multitude of cultures that are scattered throughout the world. I would communicate with people that I would not be able to otherwise.

Having the opportunity to create a wildlife refuge/rehabilitation center would have an impact not only on myself but also countless animals. With the increasing human population, animals are losing much of their habitats. As someone who has a passion for wildlife, I would feel privileged to assist animals.

Being able to provide for and give affection to a child who does not have anything is something that I have contemplated for a long time. Everyone deserves a caring family. Giving someone a better life and a chance to succeed in the competitive global community would make my life meaningful.

Going skydiving is a common activity selected on bucket lists. I would go skydiving because it would be an adrenaline rush unlike any other and is something to be experienced.

Scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef is something of interest. The beauty of it is unparalleled and being able to scuba dive there would be a dream come true for a wildlife enthusiast.

Having a bucket list gives me something to work towards. It breaks the pattern of a mundane existence and keeps people looking up at the endless possibilities.
