SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Grogan, Hailey: Bucket List

A bucket list gives a person ambition and imagination. By allowing myself to dream, I am rewarding myself with hope. My list consists of scuba diving, exploring, sky diving, mission work, and climbing Mount Everest.

To be able to explore the Great Barrier Reef is like taking a first step onto Mars.  The reef is full of creatures ranging from micro-organisms to animals larger than humans. Scuba diving allows a very personal encounter that is sure to leave a memory like no other.

Seven mysteries stand over the rest and create a sense of unknown among our world. To travel to each of these wonders could leave me more enlightened than I was before or even less naïve than previously. Traveling to each would then be my next objective.

I love adrenaline; therefore, I am attracted to the idea of sky diving. Falling at terminal speed and putting all faith into God and a parachute calls for maximum amounts of concentration and pure adrenaline; creating an eternal memory and making this number three on my list.

Missioning worldwide is sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those who have not yet had it. It can not only save lives, but can also help those who are spreading the word of the Bible to find a sense of self-realization.

My final achievement, I hope, is to travel to Mount Everest and climb it. It is the most well-known mountains and the highest object people attempt to climb and when I finish simply say that I had accomplished such an experience.

A dream is a hope for a sense of fulfillment. To strive for something as a bucket list, is to strive for a life meant for something.
