SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Hedstrom, Brishna: Bucket List

A bucket list is a necessity for life; without one, life would almost be pointless. There would not be anything to work for or look forward to. Even if a person does not know what a “bucket list” is, it is almost certain they have one. A bucket list is a set of goals a person wants to achieve before death.

Among the items on my roster are: graduate medical school, adopt children, travel, and become a follower of Christ. These are goals are very personal to myself, which is how a bucket list should be. Each has its own significance and would impact my life immeasurably. They provide, respectively, a sense of accomplishment, helping people, pleasure, and hopefully what is to come as the most satisfying of all; accepting a savior.

Completing medical school is an additional challenge that was just added to the list. If I am capable of doing it, then why not? Adopting children is something I have wanted to do ever since I found out my dad was adopted. I not only want one, but two. The first, a mixed girl, and the second, an autistic boy. I am adventurous, so it is no surprise that I also want to travel the world and experience places such as the Lover’s Bridge in Paris and the underwater hotels in Fiji. These things don’t come cheap, so that is where being a Forensic Pathologist will come in handy! The last item I will not go into great detail about, but I am trying to change my life for the better.

When it comes down to a personal bucket list, most of them never come completely true because they are not realistic, but if it is made realistic, anything is possible. Legitimate or not, it still gives a person something to progress to.
