SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Hensley, Daniel: Bucket List

A bucket list is a list of tasks someone desires to accomplish before they “kick the bucket” or “die.” Personally, I have a pretty typical bucket list, but I’m not ashamed of that. My bucket list is made up of thrilling things that will cause adrenaline to pump through my veins like gasoline in the engine of a muscle car’s engine.

Join the infantry. I’m currently in the U.S. Army National Guard. My unit is the 106th Army Band, out of North Little Rock, Arkansas. Being in a band is honest work, but it’s nothing like the rush of constantly walking around with the possibility of getting my face blown off, while also getting to serve the country.

Go skydiving. I’ve always wanted to go skydiving. Jumping out of a plane and free-falling until pulling a parachute and gently gliding down to Earth? Count me in.

Become level four combatives certified, another Army related task. Combatives is just the Army way of saying mixed martial arts. Level four is the highest you can be, thus granting you the title of “Bad Mammajamma.”

Swim with sharks (in one of those cages). I really enjoy animals, and sharks are like the hungry bullies of the sea. So majestic yet terrifying at the same time.

Own a Dodge Challenger. What American male wouldn’t want to own a Dodge Challenger? They are amazing. A Challenger is like testosterone on wheels. It definitely has to be my dream car.

Hopefully before my body reaches its expiration date, I’ll be able to cross a couple of these items off the list.
