SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and recently retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Taylor, Darby: Bucket List

-->
Though many people will fill their bucket lists with the pursuit of things or experiences, I can’t help but fill mine with my pursuit of self. Vain, maybe, but I must live with myself until the day I die. I should at least be an enjoyable person.

One thing I must do before I die is to attempt at being a successful performer. This doesn’t mean becoming a megastar. All I ask is for enough to keep food on my table and clothes on my back without having a side job that involves having dollar bills tucked into my skivvies.

I have always enjoyed reading and writing creatively for fun. Because I enjoy the written word so much, I intend to publish a book that is as relevant and persuasive as my favorites.

As a young girl who was not pleasing to the eyes, I decided that if I could not be pleasing to look upon, I would make my words (the humorous and the somber) comforting to others. Bringing a smile to others never fails to remind me why I am here.

I also desire to get married to someone equally strange and support him in every way as he supports me in turn. Love is not based on looks, money, or even brutal honesty. It lies in solidarity, loyalty, and passion.

Nerdy as though it may seem, I have always dreamed of attending Graduate school. There is something about quietly challenging my mind without bravado and applause that I find gratifying. Knowledge is only as good as how it’s used, and instead of using my intelligence to bully as some do, I intend to use it to bring light and truth to others.

All this I hope to achieve with my time on earth.
