SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Wisinger, Amber: Bucket List

My bucket list is fairly long, but if I had to choose my top five, they would be, in no particular order; to go to Ireland, to swim with dolphins, to earn a medical degree, to go to Disney World, and to open my own private medical practice in a small town. I have always wanted to visit Ireland because I researched my family name once and discovered that Ireland is where my family originated. There is also a lot of history and culture there that I would love to experience. While almost everything on my bucket has a reason or story behind me wanting to do it, there isn’t an important reason that swimming with dolphins makes my list, I just think it would be fun. Earning a medical degree is very important to me. I have already earned an associate’s degree and I am currently working on my bachelor’s degree, so I can say that I am actively pursuing this item on my list. Visiting Disney World is something that I have wanted to do since I was a child. My family of six never took family vacations because it would have been extremely expensive. My husband, who is also from a large family, has never had the opportunity to visit Disney World either, so we plan on going to there for the first time together, hopefully on our fifth wedding anniversary. After I have earned a medical degree and when I am financially capable, I would love to open my own private family practice clinic. I want to be a small town doctor, the kind of doctor who knows all of her patients by name. While I am only working on one item on my bucket list now, I hope to complete all of them sometime in the near future. I hope to do everything on this list and more before I “kick the bucket!”
