Long, Alyssa: Bucket List

A bucket list is a list of the things I would like to experience or accomplish before I die. Mine contains a variety of items, and the top item on my bucket list would be to see the ocean. I have never been to the beach, never felt the sea spray on my face, nor seen the sun set under a watery horizon. It would be lovely to watch as fish swam by and seaweed and grasses floated around me in the briny water. Standing beside the ocean on the soft sand, I would truly feel amazed at the wonder and beauty God had created.

Another event on my bucket list is to go to an opera. I love music; I like to listen to it when I read. I also am an instrumentalist and singer. So opera would combine all the aspects of music that I enjoy; from the orchestra playing complicated sheet music to the characters on stage singing story lines at unbelievably high notes. I would be completely enraptured by the story unveiled through the complex melodies and drama.

My bucket list also contains a wish to speak a language other than English fluently. I took French and Spanish at Magnolia High School and greatly enjoyed both romance languages. I would benefit immensely from mastering a language besides my native tongue because I could then communicate with a wider variety of people and learn about cultures different from mine. Speaking another language fluently would allow me to make new friends and learn from their experiences.

I am terrified of anything that crawls such as insects or bugs with hard shells that crunch sickeningly. Therefore the last thing on my list would be not to scream when I kill or rescue one of the above creatures. If I were able to save or demolish creepy, crawling creatures, I would forever be free of my paralyzing fear. My bucket list is now complete; it contains places and events I would like to experience and challenges I would love to master.
