SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. SAU Writing Contest Winners 2026

In the 2026 SAU Writing Contest several Honors College students participated. In the Poetry category, Monet Coppersmith was an Honorable Mention with, "A Love Letter to Life". In Short Fiction, William Ashcraft won first place, and Elizabeth Attebery won second place. In Creative Nonfiction, William Ashcraft won second place and Elizabeth Attebery tied for third with another student. 

All winners submissions are published on Emergence, SAU's student literary journal.

Honors Students Named Undergraduate of the Year in College of Science and Engineering

Two honors students received outstanding undergraduate awards from the College of Science and Engineering on May 1, 2026. The Honors College congratulates them for their hard work and achievements! 


    Jenna Holmes receives the award for Outstanding Undergraduate in Biology


Malak Bachri receives the award for Outstanding Undergraduate in CSE
