Keeney, Nicole: Teens and Contraception

Parents across the nation need to be more accepting of their daughters's anatomy. If more parents would accept that their teenage daughter is sexually active it would help reduce the already high rate of teen pregnancy. While it is understandable that IUDs have a rocky history, parents in this century need to understand that medicine and birth control methods have come a long way. Birth control pills are not the best protection against pregnancy and even though some parents may see them as the safest method there is still the possibility for complications like any other contraceptive.

While long lasting contraceptives may be more expensive they are the best bet for any teen or adult woman to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. No matter what type of birth control used every woman runs the risk of pregnancy. Unintentional pregnancy can be prevented by many methods but not all birth control methods have the same risks or have the same failure rate. Doctors truly believe that IUDs are the safest and most effective birth control on the market when used with condoms.
