SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Bucket List Clayton Collins

My bucket list contains 2 main parts: the current and the future. It is important to look ahead at what you want to do in life, but you should never forget about the present. My future goal is to become an orthopedic surgeon, perhaps working at a VA hospital, owning my practice, or some mix of both. However, this is far in the future at this point, so I must focus on my current schooling here at SAU where I intend to maintain a 4.0 GPA, become an officer of the Pre-Health Club, find shadowing or internships, and conduct research with a professor. I want to do this to place myself at UAMS where I shall aim to match in a residency either in Washington State or Colorado, I love the environment in both those states.

I firmly agree with the self-actualization and improvement that Alfred Maslow established, so I envision myself improving physically, mentally, and holistically as it would be an insult to myself to not live up to my potential. I must be better. I will build myself up by obtaining the physique I want through vigorous, consistent effort; I will nourish my body by making sure I maintain a healthy lifestyle; and I shall become a better person.

Together with my medical and personal aspirations, I will fulfill the need to help others, create a successful living, harbor a family, and live the life I want to live. I want to be able to say that I climbed a famous pitch such as El Capitan in Yosemite. I want to travel the world, especially to New Zealand and to Northern Europe where I could potentially have residences. I want to have a creative hobby such as writing a book. Basially, I want to improve myself and live the life I need to.

Bucket List Jayla Lambert

Since the 10th grade, I’ve been in musicals at my high school and at Magnolia Arts. I’ve been in so many, but I’ve only seen two: Esther at the Sight and Sound Theatre in Branson and Hadestown on Broadway in New York City. I would love to see more musicals before the end of next semester and especially before I graduate. There’s an opportunity to watch Dear Evan Hansen in The Robinson Theatre this week, but I’m not sure if I can make it.

With my high school choir, we traveled every year. We’ve been to Chicago, New York, and this year we went to Hollywood. Because of choir, I love traveling, and although I’m not in the choir anymore, I would like to continue to travel. I want to visit Atlanta and Florida. My parents are traveling to Jamaica tomorrow for a couples’ retreat, and I am so jealous. They’ve made me realize how much I miss traveling every year. Traveling makes my stomach rumble. The thought of all the new foods and drinks makes my soul happy.

Even if I don't get to travel anytime soon, I still want to try new foods. I have friends in town from different cultures who invite me for dinner and we’ll share dishes the others have never tried before. I’m friends with a faculty member's daughter and I love his curry and his wife’s salmon and onion soup. I aspire to continue filling my belly with good food, although it’s kind of hard being a broke college student.

Bucket List Gabriel Thomas

I don’t really have a set plan for the future of my life yet, but I do have goals that I want to reach. I love being around people and having a positive impact on the people around me. I plan to have a job in finance that allows me to do that. Right now I am looking into financial planning. It appeals to me because I have always had an interest in investing and it also gives me opportunities to help with people's future. I want to be seen as a leader in the workplace and someone that is trustworthy.

I want to have a family that loves Christ and cares for one another. I need to be financially stable so I can support my future family's needs. I love traveling and going on vacation so I can’t wait to take my family on vacations like skiing, hiking or to the beach. I am a Christ follower, I want to reflect him and be a light to my family and everyone.

I have always loved outdoor activities like hunting and fishing. I would love to live in the country on a lot of land where I can do all those things. Hunting and fishing give me relaxation and an escape from stressful situations. There is nothing like the feeling of when a big buck walks out in front of you, it is one of the most exciting experiences in life. I've always wanted the opportunity to elk hunt, so I hope to do that in the future. I hope to always be involved with the great outdoors and for it to be a big part of my life in the future.

Bucket List Breanna Hall

As of right now, I plan to complete the pharmacy technician program I am enrolled in before the end of November. I hope to become a pharmacy technician afterwards. I plan to get accepted into Pharmacy School and become a pharmacist between the ages of 26-28.

Sometime before I am 30, I want to travel to some part of Europe. There are many parts I really want to visit, from England, to France, to London. This has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember because I grew up being obsessed with Harry Potter (I read the first book when I was in kindergarten). When I was 10, I almost got the chance when my Papaw offered to pay for me and take me with him. He knew how much I loved to travel and wanted to go to England, and he was willing to make my dreams come true. My parents, however, said it wasn’t fair for my three other sisters, so he went alone, and I grew bitter. I want my aunt to come with me because she’s my favorite person, and she’s the one whom I share my love for Harry Potter with.

I love to travel, so other items on my bucket list include traveling as well. I have always loved going to new places and most of all, immersing myself in different cultures. Since my parent’s divorce two years ago, I have gotten to go on two cruises: a trip to Florida and another to Guatemala. My favorite was Guatemala because it immersed me deeply. No one even knew how to speak English, so I was forced to learn basic Spanish.

Bucket List Allison Parker

As a start, I want to ride in a hot air balloon. I have always felt afraid of heights and situations where I can’t easily escape, both of which are inevitable when riding in a hot air balloon. The action of riding in the air balloon isn’t just about the view or the feeling of the wind cold on my face- but the fact that were I to ride in one, I’d have conquered my fears and not allowed them to control me.

On a more serious note, I want to graduate college. Twice. Neither of my parents have attended college, making me the first to have the chance to graduate. I want to feed my ambitions like a flame by getting as much knowledge under my belt as possible. I plan to graduate with my first degree in computer science, and my second in pathology. Both of these things have interested me since I was a 10 year old, learning to do basic block-coding on Scratch while watching video after video on epidemics and deadly diseases- I was a weird kid.

I want to travel to Japan. It’s as common a wish as any, but I find some nostalgia when thinking about Japan and how my dad would bring me home souvenirs from his deployments overseas. The cute dolls and Pokemon merch became a token for the joy I’d feel watching him walk through the door after months of no contact.

Overall, I want to live a life where I feel fully fulfilled and happy. My bucket list is due to change, as life ebbs and flows and my wants and dreams will as well. But I will never strive for a life that’s less than.

Bucket List Shannon Hobbs

As an incoming “calendar freshman” according to Dr. Shannin Schroeder, I have a few long-term goals in mind such as becoming an abnormal pediatric psychologist and starting a family.

However, I do have a few short-term goals such as graduating in 3 years instead of 4 and maintaining a GPA that stays above 3.5.

Starting next summer, I hope to get a part time job working at the local coffee shop in my hometown. I also plan on continuing my babysitting endeavors, as this gets me experience being around children who I can hopefully help in the future.

While my goals may seem simplistic at the time, I see myself achieving far beyond my stated goals. For example, changing the way my generation thinks about the classroom setting and the anxiety that comes with it. In my mind, if I can change the way an 18-year-old thinks, I can most definitely help school age children overcome mental ailments or even mental illness.

Bucket List Hunter Pye

I would consider myself a lifelong learner. From the early years of my life until now, I have always enjoyed learning new things. As a child, I was always picking up new hobbies and trying to learn more about new subjects.

With my ambition and vast interests, I’m sure I could talk all day about things I would love to do later in my life. However, there are some key things that are at the top of my list. Starting in high school, I took interest in political discussion. Over time, I realized that I had a passion for leadership. I became fascinated with our country’s history and political philosophy. Therefore, I am looking forward to the day that I run my own campaign for elected office. My goal is to run a successful campaign and serve Arkansans on the state-level. Because of politics, I became intrigued with American law, and I have come to really enjoy studying litigation. My career goal is to become a litigation lawyer.

In my personal life, I want to do some traveling. I don’t have a specific place in mind, but for certain, I want to experience more of this beautiful world I live in. I also want a family, with a beautiful wife and kids that I love sacrificially. I want to achieve enough success in my career so that my family enjoys financial security. I also want to give my future wife and children a good life, like my parents gave me. Above all, I want my life to reflect Christ. My life here on Earth is temporary, and there is only so much I can do. But whatever I do, I want it to be an advancement of God’s will and an advancement of God’s kingdom.
