SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Ban, Pujan: President

A president is the head of an organization, an institute or even a country that looks after and works for the welfare of that particular organization or institute. So, if I were the president of Southern Arkansas University (SAU) I would make the following improvements:

There are many students who deserve some kind of financial aid on the basis of their academic performance. Instead, the university is spending a lot of money on other kinds of extracurricular activities. Priority should be given to education, and only then to sports or to other activities. For example, the university is spending large amounts of money on a football team although they are playing badly. They are winning a few games and degrading the reputation of our university instead of uplifting it. In such a case, I would restrict the budget for such a poor performing team and, instead, spend the money for improving the educational standard of the university. I would focus on increasing the scholarship programs on the academic departments.

Secondly, students have to pay money for staying in the dormitories during holidays. For example, students must pay $15 each day in order to stay their rooms. Why do students have to pay for staying in the room again when they have already paid for it during the starting of the semester? I would cancel such kind of payment if I were the president. SAU has provided good facilities for sports like football, baseball, and basketball. But there is not even a proper ground or court for games like soccer and badminton. There are many students who like soccer and the interest in this sport is growing up since the USA reached to quarter finals in the last World Cup. I would start an initiative to collect funds to construct a proper soccer ground, I would show respect for all sports if I were the president of the Southern Arkansas University.
