SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Lock Emily: Sexual Health

I personally have never “hooked up” with a guy, however I know people who have.  Hooking up is a term used to explain anything from making out with someone to having meaningless sex.  Many of my friends, both girls and guys, “hook up” with people they barely know on the weekend, because they know there are no strings attached.  I personally do not see this as the correct way of pleasing one’s self.  I would rather meet a guy and get to know him before I were to do anything sexual.  I will admit I am not surprised about the percentage of students in the article who have admitted they have had sex either in the last week or with multiple partners in the past year.  The percentage of people who admit they have had sex either within the last week, month, or even year is outrageous.  I am happy to say I am in the 9 percent that has not.  I plan to save myself for the right man and wait until after marriage.  I do believe the statistic of students today having more sex with no strings attached more often as compared to those who were students in the 1990s is accurate.
There are also many other reasons I do not want to “hook up” with anyone.   I do not want the possibility of becoming pregnant with a man’s baby if I don’t like him.  He could be an awful father or even an awful person.  I do not want to contract any sexually transmitted diseases.  Lastly, I do not want a bad reputation.  I have too much to look forward to in life to mess it up with a stupid decision.  Any of the consequences above could keep me from rodeoing, kick me out of the Honors College, or even make my life miserable.
