SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Welcome new students
We have 56 new students this year.

Honors Staff Introduction

Extramural Education:
Reports from students who traveled other places to further their education. Honors students traveled far and wide: London, Dallas, Washington, DC, and many more places.

Pool Party:
Tuesday, September 3, 2013, Magnolia Country Club, 5:30 to 7:30 pm
Bus will leave from Honors Hall at 5:15 pm. RSVP by 5 pm, Friday, August 30. So far, 21 students have signed up.

HCA:
Honors College Association is an SAU group. We would like to see it reanimated. So, who would like to volunteer to start a membership drive and hold elections?

Adoption Agency
We want peer mentors for new students. You will create and run the program. Every new student should have a peer mentor by Friday the 13th! See Jenna Meyer.

Arkansas Arts Center Trip:
Sunday, September 8, 2013, see Rembrandt, Van Dyck, and Gainsborough exhibit
Bus will leave from Honors Hall at noon. Watch your e-mail for seats.

Matriculation:
The annual Matriculation Ceremony is still seeking a speaker. More on this later.

Honors Hours:
You must complete 24 honors hours in order to graduate as an Honors College Scholar. Do NOT wait until your senior year to complete a large number of hours.

Contracts:
Please have all contracts with faculty for honors hours completed by Thursday, September 5, 2013. Any contracts turned in after that date will not be honored.
Once you designate a contract course for honors credit you cannot revert back to the non-honors class.

iPads:
iPad requests MUST be turned in no later than Friday, September 6, 2013.

Late Night Study Hall
SAU is working on locations for late night study.

Lounge:
The Honors Lounge will be open from 9 to 5 every school day. Please feel free to drop by during those hours. The Lounge features cable TV, a PC, and a wireless printer that is iPad ready.
