SAU Honors College

The SAU Honors College was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Rankin, president of SAU. Dr. Lynne Belcher served as founding director and is retired from SAU. The Honors College seeks and admits qualified students who seek to pursue a serious academic program with equally gifted peers and committed teachers. Honors classes are small and provide academically enriching opportunities for students and the faculty who teach them. Currently, SAU enrolls nearly 170 honors students and graduates about 66% of admitees in four years or less. Anyone interested in applying to the Honors College or seeking further information should contact the director, Dr. Edward P. Kardas at epkardas@saumag.edu or at 870 904-8897.

Honors College Report
August 14, 2013

Enrollment: We should end up at or near capacity (60). We have 45 enrolled in Honors Seminar right now and have yet to enroll international students.

2+2 Program: We have established articulation agreements with SAU Tech and College of the Ouachitas. We hope to establish similar agreements with South Arkansas CC, Cossatot, Rich Mountain, National Park, and UACCH.

Poster: Our annual poster will feature the 2+2 program.

iPad app: We are collaboration with start up company empowered.com. They contacted us because of our issuing of iPads to students.

Annual pool party: The annual pool party will be held on the Tuesday after Labor Day at the Magnolia Country Club. Marlar’s Cafeteria will donate catering for the event.

NCHC Meeting: We will take 7 students and 3 faculty to the annual meeting of the National Collegiate Honors Council in New Orleans in November and will make four separate presentations.

Contracts: We will strictly enforce honors course deadlines for contracts. Too many faculty fail to return their contracts on time.

Matriculation: The date and speaker for the annual matriculation ceremony have not yet been set. We are negotiating with a possible speaker at present.
