Senn, Joy: Bucket List

Oh the places you’ll go! Dr. Seuss’s popular children’s book by the above title is one of my favorite books.  In a very clever and quirky poem he talks about traveling through life and moving past obstacles.  This book inspired me to write a bucket list.

   

Starting at the top of my list would be learning a foreign language.  In today’s multi-cultural world knowing a foreign language is a highly desirable skill.

Learning a second language closely relates to my second goal, studying abroad.  Europe is my place of interest and having the chance to spend an extended period of time studying in Europe would be a dream come true.  

Of course, graduating college with honors is on my list.  Coming from a family with parents who never attended college, my goal is to break that pattern and join my siblings who have aspired to do the same.

Moving on to the more thrilling and daring aspects of my bucket list, I would like to name a more cliche bucket list item.  Sky diving.  Yes, the epic rush of leaping out of an airplane is something that has allured me since I was a tiny child.  

Running and traveling are two of my most enjoyable hobbies.  Combining these two I create my final bucket list item.  Completing in half-marathons on all seven continents.  This may seem like a bizarre goal, but people have actually already accomplished this challenge and I would like to join the list of runners who have raced all over the world. 

As Dr.  Seuss said, “There are points to be scored.  There are games to be won… Your mountain is waiting.  So… get on your way.”  I see my bucket list as my mountain that I am climbing over in life.
