Black, Lera: Bucket List

My life has never been what one would call ordinary. I am 6,000 miles away from the place I call home and English is not my first language. My first airplane ride is one of my most vivid memories. As a result, I have developed intense wanderlust. My life goals are centered on adventure, experience, and movement. I do not plan to settle down. I have hundreds of things I would like to do before I die, but the following five are the things that mean the most to me.

To become a traveling photographer is one of my biggest dreams. I am most interested in nature or wildlife photography, but I am also drawn to the idea of photojournalism. Millions of things happen in the world every day and each culture interprets them differently. I want to capture these moments not only to show them to the world, but also to be able to have been there, captured the experience, and have picture to reminisce upon.

The second item on my bucket list is open an art gallery. I want it to be a place where artists can showcase whatever art form they practice. I also want this gallery to be a place where fellow artists learn from each other as well as teach the community about the importance of art.

My third goal is to find balance. I have many things that I worry about. I can always show more kindness than I do. I often allow my fears to get in the way of my goals. I hope to let all these things go. I do not want an easy life, but I want to develop an inexhaustible spirit that not only carries me through the hardest of times.

My fourth wish is to run and hike the world’s most beautiful mountain ranges. I want to see the ocean from the top of a tall peak and put miles behind me on rugged mountain trails. There has always been something physically and mentally rewarding to me about climbing mountains.

Finally, I want to meet Dave Grohl, the lead singer of the Foo Fighters. I do not have an elegant paragraph to dedicate to why I would like to meet him, only my firm belief that he is the coolest person alive today.
